Hurricane Harvey in Houston Response
Name:
Hurricane Harvey in Houston Response
Date:
August 29, 2017 - September 14, 2017
Event Description:
Dear Friends of Serving Our Neighbors,
One of our Community Collaborative Partners, Eric Cummings (who just moved his family here from Houston, TX several years ago) boarded a plan at 5am on Tuesday morning, August 29th to go and serve with Somebody Cares America / International (that is also based in Houston & has already rescued more than 13,000 people from their flooded homes).
While living in Houston, Eric founded CORE (Compassion Organizations for Relief Efforts) in 2005 in response to Hurricane Katrina and last year he was the Director of our Faith Leadership Conference at our Emergency Preparedness Leadership Forum at the Oregon Convention Center, wherein we gathered about 800 Business, Government and Faith leaders to build trusted relationship now, before a major disaster strikes our region.
Eric will also be re-establishing a base camp for CORE, that will continue serving our neighbors there in Texas, long after the media attention has ended and throughout the long road of recovery for the more than 5.3 million people that live in that region.
In addition, CORE has partnered with SON to train the trainers in local churches in our region with Preparedness Peace, Map Your Neighborhood, Crisis Response International (CRI) Trainings and Somebody Cares America's Trainings
Can you help us, help Eric, to help those in the greater Houston metro area?
- You can donate directly to the helping Eric get there and back home, as well as what he needs while serving there, via his church Colossae. Just select the Hurricane Harvey Response Fund.
- You can give directly to what Eric needs to support his family here, via his PayPal account (this is a personal gift to him and NOT tax-deductible).
- You can donate directly to Serving Our Neighbors and all designated funds to Hurricane Harvey in Houston Response will be utilized to support CORE & Eric's work here, there and around the nation.
God bless & Shalom (as it should be, nothing missing, nothing lost, completeness, fullness & peace)!
